The Sacramento Bee
D
&J Kitchens and Baths, Inc. has exited
the “recession” stronger than ever.
Owner Darius Baker reports that 2016
was the strongest year in the company’s
35 years in business. Simply surviving the past
seven years was extremely difficult, however, it
provided an opportunity to become an even stron-
ger remodeling company.
“The much slower pace of that time frame al-
lowed for some time to refine the many systems
we already had in place; as well as, develop proce-
dures and processes that have made the company
much more efficient and proficient,” says Baker.
“We have steadily improved the time required to
complete even the most complex kitchen, bath,
and whole house remodel projects. One of the
most pressing issues in the entire construction
industry is the lack of a skilled and experienced
work force.”
D&J has been able to establish and maintain a
very talented and cohesive crew that allowed them
to complete 28 projects in 2016. “This crew cou-
pled with very long-standing relationships with the
few sub-contractors we use has allowed us to com-
plete projects in the least inconvenient time frame
for our clients.”
Darius Baker will be presenting a seminar at the
Home & Landscape Expo on Saturday at 1 p.m.
where he will discuss how to make sure you get
everything you think you are getting when you
sign a remodeling contract. You can also find their
exhibit in the Pavilion Building.

W
hat if you could
get $10,000 off the
final sales cost of a
new car? And that
car ended up costing you con-
siderably less to operate than
the one you are driving now
while cutting your transporta-
tion emissions to near zero. It’s
possible when you make the
switch from a standard gas car
to one powered by electricity.
You’ve seen electric vehicles
(EVs) in ads and on the road,
but you may not have viewed
one up close or spoken to an
impartial EV expert. You can at
the Northern California Home &
Landscape Expo this weekend.
Stop by the Clean Vehicle
Rebate Project booth at the
Expo to learn about the unique
driving experience that EVs offer
and the savings that range from
up-front rebates to lower fueling
and maintenance costs. The
booth will be next to the Sacra-
mento Municipal Utility District
display and will feature a plug-
in hybrid Chevy Volt, one of the
most popular electric cars in the
U.S.
The Clean Vehicle Rebate
Project (CVRP) is a program of
the California Air Resources
Board and administered by the
Center for Sustainable Energy.
The project offers cash rebates
for the lease or purchase of a
variety of EV models, from eco-
nomical two-seaters to luxury
sedans. Rebates go up to $5,000
for fuel cell electric cars, but
most EVs qualify for a $2,500
rebate. When added to the avail-
able federal income tax credit of
$7,500 for qualifying electric
vehicles, it adds up to $10,000.
Consumers with household
incomes less than or equal to
300 percent of the federal pover-
ty level are eligible for an addi-
tional $2,000 from the CVRP.
At the CVRP booth, you’ll be
able to review the EVs available
for rebates, discover which one
would best fit your needs and
get information about charging
at home and on the road. You
